Infinite Mortality

How endless moments can feel,
It’s almost dangerous.
Endlessness,
The feeling of immortality,
A moment,
Regret,
Yet also ecstasy.

For not seeing the colours when they were,
For finding the life only once the moment has passed,
Leaving your mind with memories to construct,
And for your heart to hold onto.

You long for it to absorb you,
You reach for it now,
Wishing that if you pictured it clearly enough,
Yearned for it painfully enough,
Recognised the beauty in the seemingly eternal moment
You now know to have been only finitely long,
It might just eat you whole,
You might just travel back in time
To live the infinite possibilities
With which you play it back.

Oh how I wish
To actually be there then,
Yet my incorrigibly cautious heart
Consoles itself in the present
By thinking a moment endless
Always and yet again,
Despite my knowledge otherwise.
