Celestial Pursuit

The earth watches me leave,
Worried despite its years,
Seeking blindly for the sun,
The warm pull that attracts all,
The heat burns,
Yet I tug harder on my rope,
Chasing after the warmth,
Following blindly.

I yank on my rope, leap forward,
Ignoring my doubts,
The sun is my home, it has to be,
I repeat to myself,
Hoping the words ring true
If I chant them long enough.

Yet with every pull,
It only becomes clearer
That I head for the wrong place,
To suit my heat,
It is not warmth I seek.

And all this,
Venus watches, composed,
Oblivious that I take the wrong road,
Unaware that she is my destination.

My rope breaks, and I fall,
To find a taste of her coolness,
In my frigid solitude.
A wildness regains,
As I dance madly alone,
Venus watches still,
Feeling a warmth kindle within.

One day I shall find Venus,
The calm to my storm,
My chaos disturbing her unshakeable poise,
And watch our perfect steps falter
When we first meet.

But until then,
Let her cool creep into my heart,
And my warmth melt her ice,
Let us heal each other,
Despite the distance,
With simply the faith that we are present,
As I dance happily alone.

Now I know,
Why I saw a reflection of myself in the sun,
Yet in Venus, I see all that I lack,
Our broken pieces interlock,
The lifelong puzzle of our grooves and ridges suddenly solved,
When we see our reflection, perfectly whole,
In the universe.

The journey to the sun,
A failure in ways,
Pushes me a step closer
To finding myself,
And thus still succeeds.

In the distance, the earth smiles,
My eternal home.
