We’re all social animals,
Whether we admit it or not,
We may not be the most outgoing,
But everyone treasures the ones they’ve got,
The ones who are truly with us
While they are,
Before they leave us to continue their inevitable journey
Into the world afar.
For sometimes, our prolonged routine
Becomes our captor,
From which we long for freedom.
There is an ending to every chapter,
Every book, every moment, every person,
While our life without them may worsen,
We hold on to every memory that is beautiful,
To honour our relationship,
And make us feel truly grateful
For the time that we did get
To share, learn and be inspired.
A part of us having been shaped by them,
We wish they could see how much they are admired
To tell them that we value every single selfless effort,
That we saw how much they perspired,
For us to feel and now miss their comfort.
We may realise how much it means to them
For us to reach out and express
The value of such gems,
Tell them they will always be remembered
As legends and no less.
But how can one possibly turn
Such respect, love and honour into words
While honouring their truancy,
Not yearn for their return,
And do justice to their modest contributions towards
Making you feel at home?
While it’s pertinent to move on in your life,
A part of it is to recognise
Their lost presence, their absence
For it gives us the drive to rise
And do something that honours their essence.
It is important to revisit memories,
Not necessarily of moments,
But of people,
Which can’t be narrated or captured
Even by the best camera
But lie within our hearts,
Memories that teach and remind us of
The power of company.
