COVID-19
A name that many fear
When it comes to living life freely,
It’s one that nobody wants to hear.
It has put everyone in quarantine,
Disrupting a world
That was happily run by caffeine.
Today, as the world dives
Into a pool of terror and concern,
We continue to look for hope,
Something that can make our situation take a wild U-turn.
Every day, we wake up to have another chance
At accomplishing the challenge
Of finding peace and positivity in utter chaos.
Some sing, some dance,
While some barely arrive
To the end of the day,
But one thing that we all experience constantly
Is the struggle to survive.
It’s not new, it’s been there for centuries,
Even in times when there wasn’t a virus on the loose,
For we are all mortal and will meet our end one day,
It’s why making an impact is what many choose,
To leave the planet with more than just ash,
Once they have completed their stay.
And as we are once again reminded of our impermanence,
People realise what’s truly important for them.
They raise their voice against the injustice that had been shadowed
By the race of life in the nine to five,
They feel empowered to take action,
To end their oppression
That they had ignored and accepted as a part of life.
Human beings are truly wondrous creatures,
Who have way more to offer,
Than just their outer features.
In a time of great helplessness and grief,
There are those whose hearts are ignited with hope
And actions driven by belief.
They inspire others not to lay and mope,
But to improve the condition of the world,
And make their voices heard.
In this time of separation from loved ones,
We are filled with appreciation and gratitude
For those who continue to function,
And contribute by doing their bit
To raise everyone’s spirits and build a positive attitude,
Whether through their manual labour, art or wit.
When in doubt about our fate,
Don’t be filled with despair or hate,
But in moments of ruth,
Remind yourself of this supreme truth:
Whenever we are deprived of something,
Something new we shall receive.
For in sooth,
The pandemic is but another challenge.
